Director of Marketing

The Director of Marketing is responsible for collaborating with DeKalb hotels, attractions, arts organizations, retail and restaurants on strategies to promote DeKalb as a destination, design, builds, manages and maintains all websites, social media platforms, video production and manages the digital advertising and marketing programs for Discover DeKalb.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement and assess strategic public relations plans
  • Maintain database of travel writer, editors and related media
  • Research, write and place stories with national media and travel writers
  • Write and distribute press releases, news bulletins, features and editorials
  • Plan and conduct media trips
  • Create copy and generate story ideas for all Discover DeKalb publications including monthly newsletter
  • Prepare news releases and media pitches for print, online and broadcast outlets; monitor media and editorial calendars for potential coverage opportunities
  • Provide media relations support. Create and maintain press kits, media photo and online press rooms
  • Develop and deliver strategic effective media pitches while providing effective, frequent, and positive lines of communications with national, regional, local and trade media; respond to information requests from media.
  • Develop itineraries for visiting media and establish relationships with public relations professionals from destination assets
  • Maintain media database
  • Assist in the creation and monitoring of website content, including blogging and all social media
  • Support other marketing programs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE         

Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, journalism or public relations; or three or more years of progressively responsible experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Government Association Sales Manager

SUMMARY

Identify, pursue, develop and promote leads resulting in booked room nights for DeKalb County as a destination in conjunction with, associations and government markets and related decision makers.  Provide leadership to market strategies and development.       

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop client base working with local, state, regional and national meeting planners/decision makers as appropriate to market, establishing a relationship with each. Enhance market knowledge by conducting personal sales calls, site visits, trade shows, familiarization trips and other activities related to each     market.
  • Establish working relationship with DeKalb County hotels, facilities, meeting facilities, attractions, retail businesses and travel/tourism resources that will positively impact the visitor experience.
  • Provide qualified leads for DeKalb Hotels and Conference Centers.
  • Develop and carry out specific marketing plans/promotions related to market segment.
  • Provide industry leadership to meeting professional associations, groups and activities in the county, state and region.
  • Maintain and complete appropriate sales reports relative to market segment.
  • Maintain a continuing leads database.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE     

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, business administration, hotel management, destination sales or related hospitality field.
  • Three or more years of account sales experience preferably in destination or hotel group sales.
