A New Year, A Global Stage: Atlanta (and DeKalb!)
As we kick off 2026, the excitement is building across Metro Atlanta and DeKalb County for a summer that puts our region on the world stage. Atlanta is gearing up to host eight of the biggest international soccer matches this June and July — bringing fans from near and far to experience the world’s most celebrated national team tournament right here in the heart of the South.
At Atlanta Stadium (the rebranded Mercedes-Benz Stadium), spectacular matchups are scheduled throughout the tournament — including thrilling group stage games and one of the semifinal showdowns later in the summer.
From Spain vs. Cabo Verde to marquee clashes featuring nations from Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, matchdays will fill downtown Atlanta with cheering fans, vibrant jerseys, and global energy.
But the action doesn’t stop at the stadium doors. The city will be alive with fan zones, watch parties, and cultural celebrations where locals and visitors alike can feel the thrill of the beautiful game — even if they aren’t inside the venue.
And for soccer fans everywhere, the excitement starts before June: Atlanta will host high-profile international friendlies in March as part of the U.S. Men’s National Team’s pre-tournament preparations.
Why it matters for DeKalb and our neighbors:
With Atlanta hosting these global matches just a short ride away, DeKalb is perfectly positioned as a welcoming home base for fans — from local gatherings to international visitors exploring our food, culture, parks, and hospitality.
