Letters, Love & Lyrics: Daddy Long Legs Comes to Stone Mountain

This summer, the heart of historic Stone Mountain Village transforms into a stage of dreams and discovery as ART Station Theatre presents Daddy Long Legs, a charming and uplifting musical that promises to captivate audiences of all ages. Running from July 24 through August 3, this beautifully crafted production offers an unforgettable theatrical experience set to a stirring score.
A Story of Hope, Growth, and Unexpected Connection
Set in early 1900s New England, Daddy Long Legs follows Jerusha Abbott, the “oldest orphan in the John Grier Home,” as her world expands beyond the orphanage walls. Thanks to a mysterious benefactor, she’s sent to college with only one requirement: write him a monthly letter, despite never knowing his name. Inspired by his lanky shadow, Jerusha dubs him “Daddy Long Legs.”
Through letters, Jerusha blossoms into a confident, articulate young woman—and what unfolds is a tender story of empowerment, self-discovery, and unexpected love.
A Thoughtful and Nostalgic Musical Experience
Director David Craven describes the show as “a delightful form of storytelling,” adding that Daddy Long Legs reminds us of the beauty in handwritten letters in our digital world. “It’s wonderful to watch someone go to college, fall in love for the first time, and share their story—all through music and the written word.”
Artistic Director David Thomas echoes the show’s inspirational impact: “Daddy Long Legs encourages the audience to believe in themselves and their dreams no matter their circumstances. It is a true message of empowerment.”
