Beyond Unstoppable Earns Humanitas Prize Nomination
We're proud to share that Discover DeKalb's original short film, Beyond Unstoppable, has been nominated for a 2026 Humanitas Prize in the Short Film category—an honor recognizing stories that celebrate our shared humanity and inspire compassion through storytelling.
For Discover DeKalb, this nomination represents something much greater than an award.
From the beginning, Beyond Unstoppable was never intended to be a traditional tourism film. It was created to tell a deeply human story—one rooted in resilience, hope, and the transformative power of community.
Inspired by real experiences, the film follows teenage Somali refugees as they discover belonging, friendship, and new opportunities through soccer in DeKalb County. While the setting is local, the message is universal: when people are welcomed and given the chance to thrive, extraordinary things happen.
This project reflects a new chapter in destination marketing—one where authentic storytelling takes center stage. Rather than simply showcasing attractions, Discover DeKalb set out to showcase what truly defines our destination: the people, cultures, and experiences that make this community unlike anywhere else.
Every frame of Beyond Unstoppable was made possible through the collaboration of talented filmmakers, passionate creatives, community partners, and individuals who believed that stories have the power to connect people across cultures and generations.
To see that vision recognized by the Humanitas Prize organization is an incredible honor—not only for Discover DeKalb, but for everyone who helped bring this film to life.
This nomination reminds us that DeKalb County is more than a destination. It's a place where stories begin, where communities come together, and where resilience continues to inspire.
No matter the outcome, Beyond Unstoppable has already accomplished what it set out to do: create connection, spark conversation, and shine a light on the remarkable people who call DeKalb home.
And for us, that's what storytelling is all about.
