Celebrate Labor Day Weekend with Excitement and Fun in DeKalb!
This Labor Day weekend, DeKalb County has two fantastic events that promise fun for the whole family. From a charitable 5K run to an afternoon of music and entertainment, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Here's your guide to making the most of the long weekend:
District 1 Labor Day 5K Fur Run
Kickstart your Labor Day with a burst of energy at the District 1 Labor Day 5K Fur Run! This exciting race supports DeKalb County Animal Services, helping them provide care and find loving homes for abandoned and homeless pets.
Date & Time: September 2nd, starting at 7:30 a.m.
Location: Mercer University, 2930 Flowers Rd. S, Atlanta, GA 30341
The day begins with an opening ceremony and an instructor-led warm-up session, ensuring you're all set for the run. Participants can choose to run or walk, and while bringing pets is welcome, it's not required.
After the race, enjoy the awards ceremony where the top three finishers will be recognized. All participants will receive a race t-shirt, a finisher's medal, and a 10% discount at Big Peach Running Company's Decatur location. It's a perfect way to support a great cause while staying active!
Labor Day Live! at Pleasantdale Park
Following the 5K, head over to Pleasantdale Park for Labor Day Live!, a free, family-friendly event that runs from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. This vibrant celebration features something for everyone:
Kid’s Zone: 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Games, bounce houses, face painting, and more to keep the little ones entertained.
Concert Lineup: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
6:00 – 7:00 p.m.: Cody Matlock
7:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Willie Ziavino and COT Band
8:00 – 9:00 p.m.: Dayve Stewart
Enjoy a diverse mix of Latin, soul, R&B, and jazz performances by local artists. While you take in the music, indulge in a variety of food trucks offering tasty treats. Please remember, items like alcoholic beverages, outside food, weapons, and tents are prohibited for a safe and enjoyable experience.
